HGV MOT Testing for Halesowen and the Black Country

Metals and engineering work loads a lorry to the top of its plate and then keeps it there. A vehicle doing that week in and week out uses up its brakes, springs and steering faster than one running half empty, and the annual test is where the difference gets written down. Halesowen is about ten miles from our lane at Aston Fields, out along the A456 and down the M5.

Why Halesowen operators test with us

Black Country engineering fleets tend to be small, hard-worked and specified for weight rather than comfort, and the components a heavy life uses up are the ones an examiner looks hardest at. A test that turns up worn brakes or tired suspension is only bad news if the vehicle then has to be taken somewhere else to have the work done. Ours is a commercial workshop first and a test lane second: the fitters who prepare vehicles against the DVSA inspection manual are on the same site when the examiner finds something, so it is quoted, agreed and put right where it was found, and the retest itself is charged separately at a fraction of a full test. For an operator running two or three lorries at weight, that is the difference between one visit and three.

HGV MOT questions from Halesowen

What is the run over from Halesowen?

Out on the A456 and down the M5 to Junction 5, then into Aston Fields Industrial Estate at B60 3EX — about ten miles all told. It keeps a heavy vehicle on dual carriageway and motorway rather than dragging it through the middle of anywhere.

What does it cost to test a four-axle rigid?

Vehicle testing is priced by axle count and nothing is added afterwards — two, three and four axles are three different figures, and a trailer is priced on its own axles again. The class of the vehicle sets the fee, and you see the exact figure for yours before you confirm the booking.

Our lorries work at weight all week. What usually needs attention?

What wears is what gets used — brakes, suspension, steering and couplings. We would far rather find those on a pre-test inspection than have the examiner find them on the lane, so if a vehicle has had a hard year, book the inspection first and give us room to put things right before it is presented.

Can you keep our vehicles going between tests?

That is most of what the workshop does: servicing, braking-system work and safety inspections carried out to your O-licence interval with the records issued for your file. We also run breakdown assistance and mobile repair, so a vehicle that stops in Halesowen is not automatically a recovery job. Ring 01527 870400 and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach you.
